FOODSHED CONNECTION: "A Global View of Local Food"

Saturday, July 10, 2010, 9:30 to 12:00 p.m.
London Farmers Market, Lafayette Rd. (SR 42) & Keny Blvd., London OH 43140

The third in a series of Foodshed Connection events, “A Global View of Local Food”, will be held in conjunction with the Grand Opening of the London Farmers Market at Lafayette Rd. and Keny Blvd. in London, Ohio.

Brian Williams, of the Mid Ohio Regional Planning Commission, will give an overview of how our region is doing when it comes to access to local food. Other speakers will focus on funding opportunities available to growers, and consumers will enjoy hearing the stories of local farmers and others who are playing a part in the success of Central Ohio’s local food system.  Everyone who eats should enjoy this event!

Confirmed speakers and attendees include Julia Cumming of Madison SWCD, Charley Gregg, Manager of London Farmers Market, Elisha Fisher, Old Farmstead Goat Milk Products, Matt Furbee, Natural Osage Angus Beef, and Heart of Ohio RC&D Council Member and Madison County Commissioner, David Dhume. More speakers are to be confirmed soon. Fun contests will be featured before and after the speaker presentations, with giveaways and plenty of time for Q&A and networking opportunities.

Lifecare Alliance will also be on-site to promote their nutrition program for seniors and will be giving away some program vouchers redeemable for produce! The goal is to create a buzz and provide a forum for more communication and education on local food in general, and to promote the resources available which make it all possible.

This event is free of charge and supported in part by funding by Natural Resources Conservation Service and USDA Farm Service Agency.  An additional Foodshed Connection event is set for Knox County in September. Check back soon for more information on this and other local projects here at www.heartofohiorcd.org or call Traci Aquara, 740-368-5979, ext. 112.
